Quinnipiac University and Hungary

"QU in BP" is the loose name for opportunities to study and work in Budapest.

Under "QU in BP" we have three different opportunities:

1) Spring Study Abroad + Paid Internship at Morgan Stanley (MS) or Black Rock (BR)

This is a highly selective program for students with data science, business analytics skills and interests in economics/finance.  This program requires (a) study abroad at Corvinus University for Spring semester, (b) part-time work at MS or BR during the Spring semester, and (c) remain through summer (usually until mid-August) and work full time at MS or BR.

The application process for this is very tight and focused.  Interested students should attend an information session at the beginning of Fall semester, do a one-on-one pre-screening meeting with Prof. Ball, attend a QU Study Abroad information session and qualify to study abroad, meet your academic advisor and qualify to study abroad, interview with MS or BR and be selected by them for the internship... all before October 10th.

Signup for interested students: https://forms.gle/YZXmnRubnptEDU5t5

  • Students signed up will receive email notifications about information sessions and updated information on MS and BR internships.

2) Study Abroad + Unpaid Internship

This program is more flexible. Students study abroad in any semester and intern part time during the semester.  The program has a range of internship opportunities.  These are also more custom created depending on the host institute's interests and availability and the student's interests. Interested students should contact Prof. Chris Ball directly (christopher.ball@qu.edu).

Traditionally we have had four partners that are open to interns (although they do not always have openings available):

  • American Hungarian Chamber of Commerce, AmCham, (https://www.amcham.hu/). This is the premier American Chamber of Commerce in Hungary hosting meetings and events for leading American and Hungarian businesses in Hungary.  Interns are likely to help host events and organize basic materials in the office.

  • Tom Lantos Institute (https://www.tomlantosinstitute.hu/). This is a global human rights foundation.  Interns likely to help host events, support research and organize basic materials in the office.

  • Mathias Corvinus Collegium (https://mcc.hu/en/).  This is a "college" in Hungary with a wide range of programs from economics to law to business.  Past interns created their own research projects to pursue during their internship and the MCC supported them with information and meetings.

  • Fulbright Commission of Hungary (https://www.fulbright.hu/).  This is the local office of the Fulbright Commission that provide scholarships for international visiting scholars going from Hungary to the USA and from the USA to Hungary.  The focus is on academic researchers.  Interns are likely to help with office work and hosting some events.

3) Custom Opportunities

These opportunities are available ad hoc , highly custom and generally happen during the summer.  Past opportunities focused on Engineering students and on Economics students. Interested students should contact Prof. Chris Ball directly (christopher.ball@qu.edu).

  • Summer 2025.  Two QU Engineering students attended the one-week Audi Summer Camp at Széchenyi University in GyÅ‘r (Hungary) and participated in a one-week cultural tour of Budapest (Hungary).

  • Summer 2024.  Two QU Economics students worked for two months as research assistants on Economics projects at the Corvinus University Institute for Advanced Studies (CIAS) and at the Future Potentials Observatory (FPO).

  • Summer 2022.  Three QU Economics students worked for two months on three different projects. One worked with an EU-funded start-up incubator, one at a Hungarian start-up incubator, and one as a research assistant on academic legal research.
